At the World Climate Conference in Morocco last month, the concrete implementation of the ambitious Paris climate protection targets was on top of the agenda. This week, scientists and practitioners will discuss these political signals at the 5th Forum Klimaökonomie organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Kiel Institute for World Economy (IfW). This year's forum will focus on the transformation processes, which need to be implemented quickly to meet the 2 °C target, in order to avoid the high economic and social costs of delayed climate change mitigation.

The Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) heads one of three discussion groups at the event. Christian Flachsland, group leader at the MCC and professor at the Hertie School of Governance, will elaborate on the short-term effectiveness of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. MCC scientist Ulrike Kornek is the organizer of the group.

The Forum Klimökonomie will take place on December 8, beginning at 3:30 pm, at the "Kalkscheune" in Berlin-Mitte. Christian Flachsland’s lecture will start at 5:15 pm.
