Durban Platform Workshop

23.05.2013

Auf Einladung des Harvard Project on Climate Agreements und des MCC diskutierten Wissenschaftler und Verhandlungsführer zwei Tage am MCC über Optionen für ein neues internationales Klimaregime.

The Harvard Project on Climate Agreements and the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) convened a group of 30 leading international researchers and policymakers on 23 May and on 24 May, 2013 at the MCC in Berlin. On these two days the participants identified and discussed options for a new international climate regime based on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action.
The Durban Platform for Enhanced Action, adopted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in December 2011, provides an opportunity to include all key greenhouse-gas emitting countries in a new international climate regime that brings about meaningful emissions reductions on an appropriate timetable at acceptable cost. Policy makers around the world need fresh, outside-of-the-box ideas on regime design from the best thinkers, and they need those ideas over the next twelve to eighteen months. The workshop conveners will produce a synthesis report after the workshop that is intended to inform UNFCCC negotiations under the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action.
