Dr. William Lamb is an interdisciplinary researcher in the Applied Sustainability Science group at MCC. He obtained his PhD from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of Manchester in 2016. His research focuses on: (1) tracking emissions trends and drivers in high emitting countries and regions; (2) evaluating carbon dioxide removal strategies in the context of national net zero pledges; and (3) studying and countering opposition to climate action, particularly “climate delay discourses” and rhetoric directed against climate policies.
William was involved in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) as a contributing author in seven chapters, as a lead author of the Technical Summary, and as a drafting author of the Summary for Policymakers. He was principally responsible for the evaluation of emissions trends in the report. He now continues this work as a lead author of the United Nations Environment Programme Emissions Gap Report (since 2021), and as an author in the Indicators of Climate Change collaboration (Forster et al.), where annual evaluations of global emissions trends are presented, among other key metrics.
William is a highly cited researcher and sits on the editorial board of Environmental Research Letters and Campbell Systematic Reviews (Climate Solutions).
