The Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) was shortlisted in the category “Energy & the Environment (EU)” at the “Think Tank of the Year Awards” in London. The MCC “impressed judges this year for its work on climate change” and was selected among the top 3. This is remarkable as the MCC was founded only four years ago. Last year, such prominent think tanks as the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), Bruegel or the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) were awarded in the same category.

The awards ceremony is hosted annually by the monthly British magazine “Prospect”. This year’s winner is the Institute for European Environmental Policy, which was awarded for its work on the protection of the seas and the future of agricultural policy. The awards were founded in 2001. They are free to enter and aim to give credit to the most original, influential and rigorous work on the most pressing challenges facing people, governments and businesses today.

MCC is a scientific think tank addressing the grand challenges of climate change and of governing the global commons. Its mission is to provide solution oriented policy pathways for governing the global commons to enhance sustainable development and human well-being. The backbone of MCC’s policy advice are publications in high-level, interdisciplinary journals such as Science, Nature or PNAS.
