Dr. Jan Steckel

Leiter der Arbeitsgruppe Klimaschutz und Entwicklung

Dr. Jan Steckel

Dr. Jan Christoph Steckel leitet die Arbeitsgruppe "Klimaschutz und Entwicklung" am MCC. Er forscht hauptsächlich zur Rolle von Entwicklungsländern bei der Verringerung ("mitigation") des Klimawandels. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind:

  • Zusammenspiel von nachhaltigen Entwicklungszielen und Klimaschutz
  • Globale Karbonisierungsmuster
  • Energieversorgung in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern
  • Klimapolitische Instrumente in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern
  • Politische Ökonomie und Verteilungswirkungen von Klimaschutzinstrumenten
  • Ökonomischer Strukturwandel

Dr. Jan Steckel war Autor im IPCC Sonderbericht zu „Erneuerbaren Energien“ (2011), im fünften IPCC Sachstandsbericht (2014) der Arbeitsgruppe III (Vermeidung) und Leitautor zum Thema Kohleausstieg im UNEP GAP Report 2017. Er arbeitete am „International Panel for Social Progress“ mit. Bis Ende 2016 leitete er im Rahmen des von der DFG finanzierten Sonderforschungsbereichs "Sustainable Manufacturing - Globale Wertschöpfung nachhaltig gestalten" das Teilprojekt "Makroökonomischer Nachhaltigkeitsbewertung" an der TU Berlin (FG Ökonomie des Klimawandels). Er ist Gastwissenschaftler am Potsdam Institut für Klimafolgenforschung.
